Planning a visit to Charleston? If you’re thinking about taking a trip to our beautiful home this spring, you’re not alone. Many guides recommend March through May as a top time to visit. The weather is wonderful, the culture is inviting and vibrant, the restaurant and bar scene is world class – and it’s all in bloom.

As knowledgeable tour guides that love to share our passion for Charleston with visitors, friends, loved ones and family, we have a short list of things we recommend everyone see, taste, and try this spring. Be sure to check out our list below for ideas, and inspiration to plan your own amazing time in Charleston.

Have spring fever? Here’s a ‘walking tour’ through the top three things to do in Charleston this spring

  1. Take a walk through the historic district. Spring is the perfect season for a leisurely stroll. Spend a wonderful evening walking with friends and viewing architecture, historic landmarks, and maybe even taking in a bit of people watching. Then be sure to stop into a restaurant for a craft cocktail, artisan craft beer, or world-class meal. The choice is yours, and it’s a perfect way to spend an evening this season. (Be sure to explore our website for some great walking tour, culinary tour, and mixology tour options.)
  2. Take a trip to the shore. Try kayaking, or take a boat tour. The lowcountry is full of wildlife, natural beauty, and all of the pleasures of living near the water. The best way to experience those pleasures is by boat. When you take a boat tour, you’ll get to see the scenery up close, and (preferably) with a knowledgeable guide that can tell you more about the ecosystem, and other natural treasures in their native habitat. You can bird watch, get a view of shrimp trawlers, watch a beautiful sunset, and even scout for fossils.
  3. Check out one of the many festivals in April. There’s tours dedicated to exploring food, art, music, gardens, and sights to see and places to be – all in a relaxed atmosphere of fun with friends. Festivals in Charleston are a wonderful way to experience the local culture and hospitality. We have the US Women’s Open Golf Championship coming up in a little more than a month, and the Spoleto Festivalthat features performing arts, jazz, and more. It’s an amazing way to take in the world-class culture in the place we call home!
